February 15, 2008
We left PA to return to MS on Tuesday, February 6, but only after we spent 13 1/2 hours at St. Vincent's Hospital trying to get Ken's Dad admitted into the hospital. We checked into the emergency room at 11:30 a.m. on Monday morning and never got Dad into a room until 11:30 p.m. Then we stayed with him until they got all his information and got him comfortable and we left there at 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Dad was released on Thursday to go back to Manchester.
We did get to our church and I was able to play in the Praise Band and sing with the PraizeKidz...it made me feel great!
We left Girard at 10:30 a.m. to catch a flight out of Cleveland. Everything was on time and we got to MS at 11:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. Talk about no sleep. It was a bit rocky and bumpy on the plane.
Ken built two standing shelf units with 4 shelves in each - they look great. A lot of people have commented on how nice they look. I got the job of filling up those shelves! Ken and the pastor are completing a flooring job started by the previous volunteer group. All that remained was adding 2 transitions where the ceramic tile meets the vinyl floor. It is a difficult job as there is about 3" of difference on the floor height. Ken also completed hanging a new storm door. I am updating the volunteer database and constructed a new database with all the jobs that were done by the various teams.
Money is slowly running out. There is another couple here working on another project, but they left for 10 days in Thailand, but will be returning to continue helping out. We are the only two teams here until mid-February.
We received a call on Saturday, Feb. 9, that Ken’s Dad was rushed by ambulance to St. Vincent’s Hospital because he had fallen. We talked with Dad on Sunday and he could barely talk without coughing. He sounded like he was filling up with fluid and getting very congested, so we made the decision to come back home. We left everything in MS and drove our pick-up truck to PA, trying to escape the winter storms. God was with us…He gave us weather that was clear and beautiful. Overnight, however, we were not spared…we received snow, and then it progressed into sleet and freezing rain and more snow. Welcome to Erie, PA.
That is all for now.
Stay tuned.
